(January 29, 2015) PROTECT is preparing to enter Missouri to stop Gov. Jay Nixon from defunding and wrecking a statewide law enforcement network that combats child sexual exploitation.
Nixon has used his executive powers to withhold funding approved by the legislature for 13 law enforcement task forces across Missouri. Reports indicate that highly trained and experienced investigators and forensic agents have stopped investigating child sexual exploitation, and that long-lasting damage to the state’s counter-child-exploitation capacity may have already occurred. One outcome of continued obstruction is inevitable: fewer child predators arrested and more Missouri children assaulted and exploited.
Nixon has shown no fear over the political consequences of his actions to date, despite extensive media coverage, a wave of letters and phone calls from the public and vocal opposition from opposing legislators. The PROTECT war room is gearing up now, and we’ll have more news soon.
